Teaching careers are often associated with a wide range of duties and high demands. Many studies imply that teachers are a heavily burdened occupational group and the health of German teachers is particularly alarming. However, there seem to be differences between teachers of different nationalities. During these studies, German and Finnish teachers’ general health conditions were compared for the first time. Many factors, on many different levels, determine and influence the health of teachers. It is being examined to what extend individual, school and systemic characteristics have an impact on different health associated variables among the German and Finish teachers. The direction of possible differences is examined. Potential causes are being discussed and departure points for preventive treatments and interventions derived. Furthermore, the results provide suggestions for a (critical) reflection of the current German school structures and working conditions at German schools.
