The starting point of the book is a detailed discussion of the terms ‘naming’, ‘nomination’ and ‘reference’, after which it attempts to construct an analysis model for the description of the naming motives of the German and Polish word formation products. The model tries to find out the German and Polish speakers' motivations behind the formation of the analysed words. Finally, the motives are compared with each other and expressed as a percentage. The appen-dix includes a set of exercises which have been designed on the basis of the outcomes of the study and which should encourage the learner to build German/Polish word formation prod-ucts on his/her own.
