About this book deutschenglish
After twenty years of intensive research, teaching, practice and reflection on learning and behavioural difficulties in children, the author concludes: The most popular civilisation disease in children (ADHD) does not exist. This applies at least to how the medical profession currently makes diagnoses. We have reached a situation where the development of a multiple-purpose-diagnosis facilities the prescribing of pills and medication. This process calms parents down more quickly, and gives all involved parties the feeling of having made an intervention. There is no clearly unified profile of the disease which could justify this approach. More to the point, ADHD hides various disturbances with different causes which require a differentiated therapeutic approach. There are some well documented cases where the „infamous“ Ritalin has to led a positive outcome, but it can also make matters a whole of worse. This study investigates how genetic variations, fears, excessive demands an a certain feeling of otherness can precipitate the behavioural disturbances. To summarise: sometimes the cause for what we call ADHD is the environment, sometimes a genetic disposition. It is often very difficult to come to a conclusion what make the child hyperactive; whether excessive expectations or genetic mutions are responsible. There is no choice but to commit to the difficult task of differentiated diagnosis to enable appropriated treatment. Keywords
