In the west, there is a fascination with Buddhism and Buddhist meditation, which is noticeable even among theologians. But what is strange is that to justify their enthusiasm, they often quote Karl Rahner: "The pious person of tomorrow will either be a 'mystic', one who has truly 'experienced' God or nothing at all. “ The firm conviction of those theologians is that Rahner, through his transcendental theology, has rediscovered the mystical and meditative dimension of Christianity and is preparing the way for a dialogue with Buddhists. They claim that a Christian interpretation of Buddhist terms such as 'Mysticism', 'Letting Go', 'Enlightenment ', Absolute Mystery' , 'Buddha Nature', and 'Nothingness' etc. is now possible because of Rahner's transcendental theology. But what is the reality?

The author examines the above theologians’ interpretation of Rahner and claims that from Rahner's perspective, an interdenominational dialogue with Buddhism can't be initiated. The author’s investigation method is a careful analysis of the epistemology of Rahner's transcendental theology and Buddhist meditation; his conclusion exposes the groundlessness of such an interpretation and of the attempted rapprochement of these religions. Moreover, the author in presenting the Christian point of view critically disputes Buddhism.

The author’s intention in this study is to challenge the arguments of supporters of Christian Zen and their attempt to integrate Buddhist meditation methodology into Christian contemplation. The old axiom lex orandi , lex credendi (how we pray and what we pray affects what we believe) still holds true.
