About this book deutschenglish

The book describes the expectations towards the Second Temple and ist priesthood as mirrored in the writings of Trito-Isaiah and Malachi. In the beginning, Trito-Isaiah is critical of the construction of the temple. However, as the temple indeed is being constructed he moves to a critical position towards ist institutions. The actual priesthood in his eyes is corrupt. He considers possible that in the future strangers will serve at the temple. By calling the temple a “house of prayer for all peoples”, Trito-Isaiah challenges the official function of the Jerusalem temple as a house of prayer for the Persian king and his sons. Malachi is also critical of the actual priesthood. However, in contrast to Trito-Isaiah he expects an act of purification in the future which will change the “sons of Levi” into useful priests.
