What characterises a good trainer of a school based prevention programme against depression? Must he be a psychologist, or can a teacher implement such a programme also successfully? Which traits, which modes of behaviour are important, where should be the focus of the training and the supervision of the trainer? Which aspects can be disregarded? Is it necessary to adhere closely to the manual, or is it better to react flexibly to the actual situation in the class at risk of departing from the manual? What atmosphere is needed in class? What kind of relationship is necessary between the students or rather between the students and the trainer in order to make the programme more effective? Can a programme, which has been evaluated under optimal conditions, function as well under the limitations of normal everyday life conditions? Does it work with challenging students?

These questions are vital in order to optimise the implementation of psychological prevention programmes under the real world conditions in school. For the first time this study compares the findings, which teachers and psychologists made, under the same conditions. The question, which of the named variables are important, is analysed and in some points answered against expectation.
