In the antique myths sexual violence against women is no rare phenomenon. Many of those narrations, like the Rape of Europa or the story of Leda and the Swan, are still known today, although without the fact of violation. It is probably less known in which high number these violation myths occur.
This study discusses the patterns of assaults, this is, the persons involved, the circumstances, and the consequences. For the narration does mostly not end after the violation at all, rather only then the proper story starts, especially for the women. How are gender relations illustrated and which attributions to men and women are effective here? Whereas today the violation as such would be the unsettling aspect, in antiquity seemingly quite different aspects were in the foreground and quite different factors were problematized.Möchten Sie Ihre wissenschaftliche Arbeit publizieren?
