Multilingualism is an always current topic that can be explored from different perspectives. Nowadays it is a given that one learns several foreign languages and then uses them in everyday communication situations. One of the possible reasons for this is that today's society is becoming more and more multicultural, which means that different foreign languages and therefore foreign cultures come together.

The authors of the individual contributions in the anthology entitled Mehrsprachigkeit – Begegnung von Sprachen und Kulturen / Multilingualism – The Convergence of Languages and Cultures address the topic of multilingualism and emphasize its importance and fixed position not only in everyday life, but also in foreign language lessons. Attention is drawn not only to the linguistic but also to other aspects, especially the cultural, intercultural, and social aspects, which are important in the development of multilingualism.

The individual contributions are the results of the research work and pedagogical experience of the authors who work at universities, teach foreign languages, and thereby contribute to the development of multilingualism among today's young generation.
