About this book deutschenglish

There are a lot of legal sources concerning the age of the Frankish kingdom. Mainly the textualisation of the Germanic tribal laws should be named in this context, commonly called Leges. They were drafted basically between the fifth and nineth century. The Lex Salica as well as the Edictum Rothari and the Lex Saxonum belong to them.

Katja Bauer, Diplom-Juristin (First Legal State Exam, Law) and Master of Medicine-Ethics-Law (Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg), takes these three legal texts as a basis and investigates the early medieval Leges from a whole new perspective. Although the research dealing with Leges was always interdisciplinarily shaped. Approaches to the topic were limited to specific sciences (German philology, Latin philology et al.). This research paper sets itself apart from former researches including medical resp. medical-historical aspects. Thereby it breaks new ground.

The research paper wants to answer a question that was not pursued by now: Do early medieval fines contain a „system“ with respect to the value of single body parts? Therefore different factors (for instance sex) are examined carefully to ascertain if and how far they could have had an effect on single amounts of fines.

Both the Latin test sites and their German translations are contained in the annex. This enables the reader to comprehend and question the statements.
